Remembering Ellen

Ellen passed away peacefully early in the morning of 21st December 2018, after being looked after by family at home in Gloucestershire. She was a very special woman, having fostered over 100 children, whilst suffering from rheumatoid arthritis from the age of 16, and tackling several bouts of cancer.

We’ve set this page up for friends, family, and former foster children to leave messages. Please use the 'contribute' link in the menu to add stories/thoughts/etc.

Thank you for messages, please consider a contribution to Versus (formerly Arthritis Research UK) via the fundraising page, as per Ellen’s wishes.

Ken, Steve, Chris, and family.

Thoughts

Hey mum. Two years ago this morning was the worst moment, and although life continues I still miss you so much. Tough final memories of audiobooks and breathing exercises, amazing district nurses, and checking in overnight only to find you gone in the morning. Wish you could see how the houseboat is coming along, and Chris’s business plans, and dad’s painting of walls and continued attempts to get the pickup moving. Had Chinese for dinner, including your favourite lemon chicken, and found the remnants of your rosé stash but nobody was up for that - maybe next year. 2020’s been weird but you’d have done it well. Wish I could offload at you over work stress, help you with your computer, show you Bristol pics... miss you terribly and wish you’d had longer. But so grateful for you being you for all the time we did have you. For the difference you made to lots of people, for keeping all your boys on track, for being my mum. Will be missing you over Xmas and the next year xx

Happy M-day, mum. Been a funny world this year and it’ll be carrying on for a bit. Doing well at work despite the chaos and changes, and boat refurb is coming along although taking way longer than planned. But I bet you could have told me that. Hoping to bring her up to Glos over the summer, really wish you could have been there. Thank you for all the things.

To a wonderful aunty and friend. How lucky am I to have such a special person in my life? A special someone who seemed to sprinkle fairy dust everywhere you went, touching everyone you met. There was never a problem, only a solution. Always a smile, despite the suffering. Any opportunity to make light of the situation ...with the added cheeky cackle! I will always admire your strength, kindness and patience. What an inspiration you are and will remain to be. I Will always be so grateful for your never ending kindness, to me, mum and Benson. Thank you for the lovely things you have made me, that I will cherish. Always remembered with fond memories. Lots of love Emma xx
